The purpose of  life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer richer experience. - Eleanor Roosevelt

I stumbled upon this quote this week and love it. As a mom I instantly connected the idea of living life with my kids, for kids, and to teach them to do the same. Over the years I have had so many women come to me for training with the goal of wanting to be able to keep up with kids and to be a "fun mom."

During these last few weeks I have loved watching all the moms out with their kids, heading out for bike rides, hiking, and walks around the neighborhood, etc. It is fantastic to see it for the moms and the kids. My own urge to get the kids out hiking with me is the spark behind this post. I have a couple of friends that are pros at getting their kids out on the trails regularly. If you look at the Insta posts them make it look easy, I have been grateful to learn it isn't as easy as they make it look. But here are a few tips I have gotten to make it doable.

1) No crazy hills or drop offs with the kiddos! Mine will whine going up and most likely fall going down anything steep.

2) Waterfalls and caves are favorite features around here. Hiking for a couple miles then turning around, not so much.

3) Lots of snacks! "Up at the next big rock we can stop and have some fruit snacks," is a phrase often used with my littles. We generally try to make sure there is a bigger treat or special something at the top or back at the car. Slurpees are always a winner!

4) You can't go with a time crunch. Head out planning on the hike taking all day and not stressing about being back for anything in particular. One of the things I need to be careful of is thinking "I should be done by now," the thought can frustrate me faster than I know how to stop it.

5) Keep it fun and light! If it becomes a task or a punishment I have failed.

Enjoy your kiddos! Especially on this mother's day weekend.
