There are many benefits of exercise, one of them being a boost in self-esteem. Exercising can make you feel more comfortable with yourself and increase your self-confidence. There are a variety of studies that have shown physical activity is both directly and indirectly associated with self-esteem. After years of Ruthie and Madi working together for Fit Friday I hope that you know toned muscles and weight loss are just the beginning.
This last week I was talking to a friend of mine, she is an amazing woman and CEO for Exitus. Exitus is a non-profit anit-human trafficking organization, if you don't know who they are you have to check em out https://joinexitus.org/
1. Improve Mental Health; Exercise has been shown to reduce depression, anxiety and negative moods as well as alleviate low self-esteem and social withdrawal.
2. Reduce Stress; Any form of exercise, from aerobics to strength training to yoga, can act as a stress reliever. Physical activity in any form boosts feel-good endorphins and distracts the mind from daily stresses.
3. Improve Brain Function; During endurance exercise, a molecule called irisin is produced in the brain through a chain reaction. Scientists believe it has neuroprotective effects and can activate genes involved in memory and learning.
If you are already working out keep at it and add this to your list of why's on those days that the motivation gets hard. If you aren't I challenge you to start. Find something that you love to do and get out there. This may take some trail and error and it will definitely take some willingness to get uncomfortable, but your thing is out there. So get up, get out there, and go do it!
