Fit Friday with Nichole
I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving filled with family, food and memories. My Thanksgiving week was also filled with sick kids and lots of cuddles, not ideal but definitely adds to the memories. We are hitting that time of year where the question "am I too sick" starts to get thrown around.....a lot. I decided it was a great week to talk about when to rest and when it is okay to still run, hit the gym, etc.
The simply answer is; if symptoms are above the neck, including sore throat, you are good to go. If your symptoms are below the neck you need to take a rest day.
Working out while you're sick increases the risk of dehydration and can make symtoms worse. Additionally, having a illnesses can decreases muscle strength and endurance and impairs precision and coordination, increasing the risk of injury
You may be frustrated with the break in your routine, but you need to think long term and big goals, recognizing that missing one day now is much better than missing a couple weeks later because you can't seem to get healthy or find yourself injured from working out when you should have been resting.
